Ultrasonic Liposuction

By

Ultrasonic Liposuction, also referred to as UAL is a technique doctors perform on a patient using a medical instrument that gives off high-pitched sound waves to turn fat into fluid in areas of the body like the neck, knees, ankles, chin, and cheeks. UAL is used in conjunction with tumescent liposuction when more body shaping is required of the patient. The Europeans began using this technique to remove fat before any other medical professional in the United States. But after using the technique for a while the Europeans rejected it because of the continuous complications it caused. When it was introduced to America, several surgeons decided to use it despite the controversy.

What Is Ultrasonic Liposuction?

Plastic Surgeons prefer to use ultrasonic liposuction than any other procedure to remove fat deposits in specific areas of the body. The ultrasonic sound waves are what turn the fat to a liquid form and when it is used simultaneously with the injected tumescent fluid it converts into an emulsion, which makes it a lot easier to remove the fat. Also referred to as the super-wet technique, the tumescent technique was designed about twenty years ago by a group of dermatologist, when they discovered a way to remove fat tissue with less blood loss during the procedure.

Injecting the tumescent liquid is the first process when doing the ultrasonic liposuction procedure. The liquid is a combination of saltwater solution and an anesthetic, along with epinephrine. It is injected into the specific area that is being treated. The reason for this procedure is to ensure that there is no substantial amount of fluid loss while performing the process of removing the fat. It also helps the removal of the fat deposits.

A generator is used to produce the sound waves during the ultrasonic liposuction procedure. The ultrasonic waves transmit through a cannula, which is like a vacuum tube. The fat cells turn into liquid when it is connected with the cannula. The liquid is then removed. The UAL procedure has the ability to remove the fat from areas that are otherwise more complicated to treat because of the location of the fat deposits. It also provides an alternative to other fat removal procedures like tummy tucking or body lifting. Although this procedure is quite appealing there is still a lot of controversy about the safety of it.

Ultrasonic Liposuction has two parts, External and Internal. External ultrasonic liposuction transmits ultrasonic sound waves, which produces energy to subcutaneous fat. By placing a paddle like tool directly on the top layer of skin. The internal procedure involves transmitting ultrasonic sound waves to the fat with a ultrasonic liposuction equipment that is a metal instrument or cannula that is entered into the skin by cutting an incision in the skin.

Ultrasonic Liposuction Risks

People who have a problem loosing weight look to liposuction as a last result to a way to loose the weight caused by excessive fat they can’t loose by exercising and dieting. The procedure itself is said to be risky because of the amount of heat involved. The risks involve burns, scarring, and blistering. That is why it is so important that you be sure to get a surgeon who specializes or knows a great in depth detail about Ultrasonic Liposuction process.

There is also the risk of what is known as seroma. Seroma is a yellow like fluid that forms in a cavity of the body. The only way to cure this is to remove the fluid by using a syringe over and over until the fluid is gone. Once the fluid is gone the cavity will close.

Blood clotting is one problem caused by the Internal UAL process as well as peripheral nerve damage. The ultrasonic liposuction procedure can cause numbness to sensory nerves.
Swelling, tenderness and bruising can be caused when aesthetic solution is under the skin and cannot be released.

There is a new procedure that will alleviate the swelling and bruising. It is called “open drainage” and it resolves the swelling and helps the recovery process.

Too much liposuction is not healthy and can become toxic to the body. Some plastic surgeons have refrained from using the procedure because of the fact-finding risk and complications involved. There are several areas of the body that it is safe to do the UAL procedure however it works greater on areas like the stomach, midsection, chin, neck, and male breast tissue.
