Liposuction Costs
By Mc Dreamy
When considering liposuction, cost is an important factor. Few cosmetic procedures are covered by medical insurance, so the patient needs to be prepared to cover the entire cost of the procedure. Liposuction costs are typically determined by two types of expenses associated with the procedure; surgical fees and non-surgical fees. Surgical fees are the direct charges for the surgeon performing the procedure. Non-surgical fees include things such as the cost of the operating room, cost of nursing and administration staff, pre-operative blood work or other tests, and other miscellaneous supplies such as post-operative compression garments. Non-surgical fees can vary greatly depending on region due to salary requirements for nursing and administrative personnel, real estate costs for the facility, and utility costs. Some quotes will contain an itemized list of all of the expenses, both surgical and non-surgical. Other quotes may be a single price per body section.
Be sure you verify with the surgeon that the quote is for the entire cost of the procedure and not just the surgical fees. Quotes may also include any required post-operative follow-up visits, while other facilities will charge you separately at each visit. Certain surgeons might also recommend post-operative treatments, such as ultra-sound massage.
Variables To Define Costs Of Liposuction
The ultimate cost of liposuction depends on many variables such as the size of the patient, the degree of difficulty of the area receiving the procedure, and the amount of time the procedure will require. The degree of difficulty and amount of time required for the procedure may both increase if the patient has gained and lost a lot of weight in the past, or if they’ve already had liposuction performed on that area before and scar tissue remains. Also, it is usually harder to perform liposuction on men than women, so a man’s cost for the same area might be higher.Facial liposuction has a greater degree of difficulty and might be priced higher.
Another thing that needs verification when pricing liposuction is how the surgeon sections the body. For instance, the upper and lower abdomen is considered two separate areas. Hips and waist are priced separately. Thighs are three separate regions; outer, inner, and anterior. Anterior and inner thigh procedures might also include liposuction to the knee, so the cost of those areas might be slightly higher than the outer thigh alone. Performing the procedure on more than one area at a time is a way to save some money on the non-surgical cost of the procedure.
Many facilities offer a discount after the first body section scheduled for the same time. Aesthetic surgery centers rarely give prices over the phone, and even if they provided a general estimate, they cannot provide a true cost without a physical examination. If you are in the beginning stages of considering liposuction, you want to be financially prepared before scheduling an examination. To get a very general idea of what the average cost of liposuction is, estimate $2000 - $3000 per body section for women and $3000 - $4000 per body section for men.
Cheaper Is Definitely Not Always Better...
Because costs for liposuction are high for the average individual, it might be tempting to try a facility advertising bargain prices. Be extremely careful when selecting a facility. Cheaper is definitely not always better, especially where your body is concerned. Make sure the facility has a good reputation in the community.
Check with the Better Business Bureau and the state medical licensing board to ensure there have been no complaints and ask for references. If you are not comfortable with anything concerning the facility, the surgeon, or the procedure, then it is best to postpone until you have reached a level of comfort with all of those items. You should be wary of facilities offering liposuction at a rate far below the area norm and facilities offering free examinations and estimates. Check the background and references of discount facilities thoroughly before moving forward with a procedure.
Once you’ve decided on the procedure, you need to determine how you will pay. Some finance companies provide loans for aesthetic surgery, but you will need excellent credit to qualify. If you have the available credit, most facilities accept major credit cards but remember to consider the finance charges if you choose this route.
